I haven't updated in a while, even though I've wanted to... I'm feeling overwhelmed. So much has been going on; where do I start? Here are some projects that we've been juggling in Apartment Hate (H8) as of late:
*The new couch demanded a living room overhaul. It's completely different now -- and I love it. I can't imagine how we existed for an entire year any other way! This is worthy of its own blog post; however, we're waiting for the ottoman to come in. Once it's here and we rehang one picture, I will be motivated to show everything off! Here's a quick snapshot to tide you over, although you really need to see the rest of the room to get the full effect!
*While still feeling empowered from the bathtub, I recaulked our sink. I didn't take a "before" picture, which was stupid, but I can show you in-process and completion:
*In preparing for the couch, I spent hours chipping paint off our hardwood floors in the living room (the painters were less than careful -- and no, it wasn't us!). I know that would make for a less-than-thrilling blog post, but I thought I could still offer a picture:
*We purchased wood from Lowe's and built a little stand for our computer monitor. A simple change, but it makes all the difference now that we can push the keyboard under it and have more desk space. Thank you, Jess, for the inspiration! It's a little taller than I might have originally hoped, but that's the last thing on my list at the moment.
*Our latest project was finished tonight, which entailed hanging pictures in our bedroom that I purchased almost three months ago. Husband made me learn (he hates hanging pictures), but I think I did pretty well! You be the judge:
Yes, I know -- I'm not a very good picture-taker (photographer, anyone? wow.). And I'd love ideas/suggestions for what could go in the picture frames. I haven't decided, but I thought actually hanging them would be a good place to start -- and perhaps would make me decide more quickly. I'm thinking framed decorative paper, or something to that effect -- not necessarily photos.
Oh, and the rubbermaid-container-turned-nightstand is unsightly, right? I've been searching for one on craigslist, but to no avail.
Speaking of craigslist, does anyone want to buy a couch?
I think that's all I've got for you. Isn't DIY fun? :)

love the new couch... where did you get it? we're couch shopping ourselves.
Beth, I'd check out http://www.freecycle.org/ too - it's a website that allows people to give and take for free just so things aren't thrown away. Perhaps there's a nightstand somewhere near your current location waiting to be made yours. (And perhaps you could post your old couch to help someone else out) I'd also recommend flea markets - it might take some elbow grease but cheap is good! (At least on my student budget)
beth...
different patterned fabric is always a fun idea!
