most this amazing day

Last night I went to the Seminary Choir's Spring concert, which was fantastic as usual. They performed a beautiful arrangement of a poem by e.e. cummings: i thank You God for most this amazing day. I'm not always a huge fan of Cummings's work, but I do enjoy this poem.

i thank You God for most this amazing day:
for the leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky;
and for ev'rything which is natural
which is infinite which is yes
i who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun's birthday;
this is the birthday of life and the birthday of love,
and this is the birthday of wings
and of the gay great happening illimitably earth
i thank You God
how should tasting touching hearing seeing breathing any
lifted from the no of all nothing
human merely being doubt unimaginable You?
now the ears of my ears awake
now the eyes of my eyes are open
i thank You God

Of course, it's always better in person, but here's a YouTube video I found of the particular arrangement the SC performed (Eric Whitacre). I can't describe how incredible the arrangement is--I am truly awed by it. Just listen for the word "wings"--it's ethereal.

Enjoy!

Eric Whitacre is BY FAR my favorite choral composer/arranger of ALL TIME!
I was just listening to "When David Heard" recorded by the Bingham Young *spelling* choir this morning and I thought to myself, "I wonder if the SBTS choirs do Eric Whitacre pieces"

AMAZING!
This is absolutely gorgeous!

I second that Eric Whitacre is an amazing arranger! Thanks for including the youtube of the song Beth. I've never read that poem before, but it was interesting hearing it put to music.. :)
