Garden Ridge Steal!

Tuesday, December 2, 2008

Here's something you might not know about me: I've been on the hunt for a punch bowl for a while. I'm pretty picky about stuff like this, so sometimes I'll be "on the hunt" for something for months, or even years! (Case in point: After 1.5 years of living in our apartment, I still do not have throw pillows for my couch. I can't find ones I like!) But when I recently went into Pier One, a punch bowl caught my eye:

Cute, right? But then came the price tag: $38.95. Ouch. But wait! It was on sale for $35! (Or maybe $25. I can't remember.) I thought about it... but then decided to add it to my Christmas list.

Fast forward a week. I took my friend Kirstin up to Garden Ridge for the first time (incidentally, she wasn't impressed. I think the store is great!), hopeful for a decorative box in which to store all our swimming stuff (I know, I'm strange). I didn't find a box to my liking, but you know what I did find? A punch bowl. A lovely punch bowl that looked suspiciously like the Pier One punch bowl. That looked identical to the Pier One punch bowl, if my memory served me correctly. And it was $9.95 (on sale from $19.95)! But I didn't trust my memory, so I didn't buy it. I mean, really -- it couldn't have been the same one. It was only ten dollars!

We left empty-handed that night, but the punch bowl never left my memory. (Wow, that sounds dramatic. But really, I guess I'm making this whole story dramatic.) Needless to say, I went back to Garden Ridge last night (dragging Wes with me this time) and happily spent $10.55 on a punch bowl that sells at Pier One for much more. But wait -- the story isn't over!

I opened my punch bowl this morning to clean it, and there was a sticker on the bottom of it. What did the sticker say? Crate and Barrel. Lo and behold, I got on their website and guess what I found?

$36.95, my friends. (Apparently Pier One charges an extra $2 for their packaging.) I couldn't believe it!

Needless to say, I'll be checking at Garden Ridge for steals and deals after this experience. For now, excuse me while I go delight in my lovely, classy, cheap punch bowl!

Why do you need a punch bowl? Do you make lots of punch? :-) You're so domestic.

One of my friends has a mom that works for a glass making company (whatever you would call that). She said they ship the EXACT same glasses (wine, tea, etc.) to places like Crate and Barrel AND to Walmart. So yes, my friend, those ritzy stores do rip you off...at least when it comes to glassware. You can get it anywhere!

3 questions:

1) where is garden ridge?
2) are they the kind of place that would have cheap soap dishes? (i'm thinking wooden ones)
3) wanna go? :o)
