Caribbean Cruise!

Sunday, February 3, 2013

My blog has been pretty quiet lately; I've been popping in occasionally to share tidbits of my life. That's the nice thing about a personal blog -- no expectations, no deadlines. I do what I want. :)

We just got back from a cruise! Wes planned the whole thing in honor of our 5-year anniversary, which was last June. We got to escape from Kentucky's winter weather for a week & spend time on the water and in the sun. It was delightful.

We were on Celebrity's Constellation, and we sailed the Caribbean sea with our ports of call being Falmouth, Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. The ports weren't as exotic as they might sound, but the beaches were beautiful.

I didn't get seasick, which was my main concern. The boat was huge with plenty to do, and I somehow survived 5 days without internet access. ;) I finished one book and read two more, which, sadly, is the most reading I've done in a long time. All in all, I'd say the trip was a total success!

Did you ever watch this iPhone 5 spoof? If not, you should. It's not long, and it basically jokes about how we all use social media to make our lives seem better than they really are. So in the spirit of keeping it real, here are a few not-so-fun things about the trip:

--The walls between rooms were paper thin. Our neighbors were old, cranky, and fought all the time. They also left their TV on all the time (they usually fought over the sound of the TV). Thankfully, Wes splurged on a room with a balcony. Besides making the room feel less closed in, the sound of the ocean (almost) drowned out our annoying neighbors.

--I didn't pack tennis shoes, so the most exercise we got was using the stairs instead of the elevators. We also ate a lot, and I definitely gained a few pounds. Boo.

--Diet coke was $2/can! For a minute I thought I would try to quit cold turkey that week, but I just couldn't do it. I probably spent almost $20 on diet coke over 5 days. Yikes. But that's okay, because Wes spent that much on just two drinks from the bar (and he got more than two!).

--I forgot my curling iron & hair straightener. I spent the whole trip trying to find creative ways to wear my hair up so it wasn't a hot mess. I know it sounds lame, but I was really bummed I forgot them!

--I wanted to book a spa appointment, but I couldn't justify a $200 massage when I could get three in Louisville for that price. One of our dinner companions got massages almost every day! I was jealous.

Ok, ok. Minor annoyances aside, a Caribbean cruise just really isn't that bad. :)

Vacation hasn't really been a priority to me in the past, especially expensive vacations like this one, but I really loved it & can't wait to plan our next trip. Rest and relaxation, coupled with sunshine, are worthy priorities! Now to soak in one last evening before a crazy work week....
