Help?

Ok, I need your opinion.

I asked for these balls for Christmas; you might remember.

My wonderful MIL and FIL got them for me! Only they're a lot larger than I expected. And I'm not quite sure what to do with them.

I found a wire basket at TJ Maxx tonight and tried to arrange them beside a candle. I kind of like it... but I don't know. I kind of don't. I'm pretty sure I definitely don't, actually. (Yes, I'm crazy!)

It's a little too... country? rustic? I don't know what the word is. My taste tends to be more contemporary.

The more I stare at it, the more I think it's the basket that's ruining it for me. I think an apothecary jar would fit my style more. Or perhaps a white ceramic platter/bowl. Maybe it's the candle. Or maybe I should just return them because they're not what I expected.

What do you think?

Beth - you should remove the candle.
The bowl fits the balls perfectly but if you want to make it look more contemporary I suggest going with a similarly shaped white porcelain bowl. Low, long and narrow so you can see all of the balls. They're cute! You should put them in your bedroom on your dresser. The brown's will play in nice with your accents. Promise :)

definitely get rid of the candle-- or, more specifically, the woodwick candle... if you want to use a candle, I'd suggest a plain thick one (sans glass)--- and the balls are definitely rustic (but CUTE!); if you're wanting to go contemporary, I agree with anonymous and say go with a white bowl/platter.

cheers!

Ok, I've seen these balls in a lot of places. I don't think the candle or the wire thing are right for them. I think you're on the right trace with the apoco jar. I found one at pottery barn that would be perfect for the mix:

the middle one. It's big enough and you could put the balls in there and then change it up for holidays and such. You obviously don't have to get one that's that expensive, I would look at Michaels or Pier 1, they both have MUCH cheaper ones. But I def think that the jar is the way to go with those.

Say something...
