Ok, folks. I don't have anything exciting to post today... but I do need your help.
I'm switching auto/renter's insurance because Allstate is too expensive (sorry, Dennis!). I've narrowed my search down to Progressive and State Farm, but I have to make a decision quickly. State Farm is $140/year more expensive... but I know a lot of people rave about their customer service. Then again, my boss has Progressive and said they've been excellent through three big claims.
So... help! Whom do you recommend (and why)?

I had a GREAT experience w/ State Farm in Morgantown, but then they were HORRIBLE when I transferred to the VA office. AWFUL. Comeon, Beth--- saving money is saving money! Progressive has a solid reputation and if they're cheaper, I'd really consider going that route :) Happy picking!
I agree. I've only been with Progressive for less than a year, but that's because Erie (who I had in PA) didn't service KY. But my husband, Scott has had them for years, and we don't have any complaints. They have 24-hour customer service, which I've never had before. And they're always prompt when mailing out your cards and such. Very friendly customer service, and big discounts for paying 6-months at a time. And really, if you end up not liking them for some reason, then you can always switch in 6-months. But I don't think you'll want to. :)
BTW, we were so dissatisfied with SF in VA that we transferred to All State. Now we're in good hands (so cheesy!- haha).
We have GuideOne and haven't had any problems.
The website is coreyinsurance.guideone.com if you need more details you can talk to my hubby! :) He's good at looking that kind of stuff up. I do know though that they give special discounts to church-goers like us.
We pay 140/yr. for renters insurance and 130/month for 2 cars/2 drivers.
we have Traveler's now, but we've had State Farm and Progressive in the past. No complaints, although with State Farm, I got a FREE windshield when my car was sitting in the parking lot and got hit by a baseball. State Farm does have very good customer service...at least that was our experience.
my vote is for cheaper, but really i have absolutely no grounds outside of frugality.
seriously.
i don't even know who does our car insurance.
Cheaper is not always better. Insurance is something that is only there for when you need it. It's not like you use it once a week or even once a month.... If a claim happens, you have to ask yourself, would you rather have the best company in the insurance industry in your corner or a second rate company that operates their claims service from a call center? Not every State Farm office is the same which is why you should find an agent that you like and trust.... he or she will be able to offer you the same rate that any other SF agent can offer. I think you'll be sorry you switched to Progressive when you really need them.
If you are ever in a accident and have progressive ins. Expect the cheapest parts and labor possible. You will fight tooth and nail, getting your car returned to "pre loss condition" with quality parts.
Say something...
