DIY: Rain Barrel

Tuesday, April 14, 2009

This looks like a fun (and very resourceful!) project.

(Okay, admittedly, I like anything John & Sherry do!)

But seriously -- easy access to free water -- what's not to love? Unfortunately, I don't know that the Village Manor would be up for me cutting away at their downspouts. I suppose I'll have to store this idea away until we buy our first home. But hopefully some of you can take a stab (make the cut?) this summer!

Rain water (at least in the middle of nowhere in WV) is incredible for washing your hair in. The softest and healthiest my hair has ever been was when my mom and I used to catch rainwater in a big barrel in the front yeard over the summers and wash our hair in it (before it started growing mosquitoes, of course!!)

When I first saw this on TYH, I FLIPPED OUT with excitement! then I sent the link to Luke, who also thought it was pretty neat. So we went about finding a 55gal food bin. FOUND ONE AT HIS WORK! So we're making one for our place-- SO EXCITED! YAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!
