Last night we had our friends Colleen and Scott over for dinner. Since we're no longer in the same Community Group, we rarely get to see them, so it was wonderful to catch up. Wes made fajitas (yum!) and we had a grand old time... until I walked into our bedroom to grab some lip gloss.

Then I saw it.

My happy little candle holder - melted. Wax dripping down the dresser. Into the dresser. Onto the floor. I was so stunned that I didn't think to take a picture of the inital damage. But Scott and Wes rushed to help, and I soon recovered my picture-taking ability:

[Colleen thought the picture to be a little boring, so she jumped to the rescue ;)]

[Luckily, Scott was really amused by the scraper tool I had from Bed, Bath and Beyond, so he didn't seem to mind helping.]

If you're curious to know how to get melted wax out of carpet, it's pretty easy. Just place a cloth over it (I used an old washcloth) and then iron. The heat from the iron makes the wax stick to the cloth instead of the carpet. Much easier than I thought it would be!

...and before I knew it, we were hanging out in our bedroom (kind of strange, right?) and Wes was telling Scott and Colleen allllll about the latest huge book he has to read. They kindly pretended to be interested, as evidenced by this picture:

And we all lived happily ever after... well, except my candle. :/

Oh - If you're curious to know why it melted, here's the scoop. The candle itself was more of a candle-holder... a cylinder of decorative wax that was empty inside and housed a tealight holder surrounded by glass. I usually put white tealights in it with no problem, but last night I decided to put a blue tealight in it. I have a few blue ones - I have no idea where I got them - but they seem to burn better than the white ones. I checked in on the candle a few times and found it happily burning, and the entire candle was glowing way more than it usually does. I was so pleased with the blue tealight! I guess they burn much hotter, and the wax cylinder couldn't take the heat. So sad.

Sorry, S&C, for a less-than-exciting evening at the Crousers'. Let's do it again sometime... and I won't light any candles.
