A Tale of Two Dresses

Story time on Bethabee's blog! Kick back, relax, and let me tell you a tale (non-fiction, mind you):

Once upon a time there was a girl named Beth who really needed a dress for her friends' wedding (shout out to Lindsey and Arian, who are getting married next weekend! we love you guys!). After shopping for several hours last Saturday with her friend Kirstin, the two went to Dillard's at Kirstin's request. (Beth is not a fan of department stores and had never been in a Dillard's before). She saw the cutest dress:

But a quick glance at the price tag ($80!) was all Beth needed to pass over the dress and continue her search elsewhere.

With a few more stores under their belt and the day drawing to a close, Beth decided (very reluctantly) to return to Dillard's and buy the dress, knowing that it would be easier to return it if she didn't want it than to decide she did and them not have her size or be sold or something equally awful.

The dress remained on a hanger in the plastic in her laundry room all week as she convinced herself that she would find a different (cheaper!) dress. She wanted to find something a little more "springy"; even though the expensive dress was cute, it wasn't really a spring-wedding type of dress. (And it was expensive. I have mentioned that, right?)

Fast forward to today, when Beth decided to go to Kohl's and look for a dress. After an hour of wandering the aisles and talking to her best friend on the phone (Ashley, you don't have a blog or I would link to you!), she made her way to the dressing room. After two hours (yes, two hours), she made her way home not only with one dress, but also with two skirts and a blouse! All for only $99 after the nice cashier gave her 30% off even though she had forgotten her coupon at home (sweet, sweet man). Take a look:

The dress and the skirt are Ralph Lauren -- what a steal! (I can't find pictures of the other skirt and shirt on Kohl's website, but they're equally cute.)

All's well that ends well, right? Beth was very happy to have paid a mere $13 more (the expensive dress was $85 with tax) for three extra clothing items! She excitedly returned home to show her husband. He was equally pleased and even paused his studying so that she could perform a small fashion show.

But that's not even the best part. When Beth went to Dillard's website to download a picture of the expensive dress for her blog, she discovered that had gone on sale: $45! Since she did like the dress very much, she convinced her husband to wrap it up and "surprise" her with it for their anniversary (only a little more than a month away!).

The (very happy) End. :)

I'm so happy you found a good deal on a cute dress...and that the agony of the Dillards shopping experience was not without its reward! Joe was looking for a fast way to get all our needs taken care of and thought a jury would award us both a large sum for emotional distress due to the scene that occurred in the dressing room there. Maybe the sale on the dress made up for that though. I don't know. :)
