Multifariousness

Monday, February 11, 2008

Well, I certainly promised an extensive update! Let's see if I can live up to the challenge. Here's what's been going on in my life over the past few weeks...

*America's Kentucky's Next Top Model: Frankfort Style

Before I knew what I had gotten myself into, a few months ago I agreed to be a model in a wedding runway show. It was a favor for a friend of a friend -- her mom had been given the prestigious title of Kentucky Floral Designer of the Year for 2007. She was given the option of doing a funeral or wedding display at the 2008 convention to display her talents. She chose wedding, but decided to go over-the-top and do an actual runway show! It ended up being a lot of fun, despite my flat tire in the middle of nowhere at midnight (that's a post for another day!). Here are a few shots from the event:

Jenny, Stephanie and me backstage.

Jenny in her truest form -- diva! She strutted her stuff in the "Honeymoon in Paris" encore... you should've been there! (Sorry for the bad picture quality, by the way -- this computer doesn't have my normal editing software.)

This was just one of the bouquets I carried. Now you can see why she was the top floral designer of the year, right? Beautiful!

I loved this dress. So much fun!

*Classical Harmonica? You heard me right....

On Saturday, February 2nd Wes and I attend the Louisville Orchestra concert entitled Harmonica Highlights. One of the Orchestra members used to work with Wes at Starbucks kindly gave us free tickets, which is always a sweet surprise! The concert featured a classical harmonicist by the name of Robert Bonfiglio:

It was interesting, to say the least. And impressive! I had no idea the harmonica was capable of a classical concerto. But don't worry: for an encore, he treated the audience to a little Sonny Boy Williamson. You can read more about him and his unique talent here.

*Only in California

Two weeks ago we had the joy of reuniting with our Californian friends, the Theules and the Bradens. It might sound like we have friends in California who came to visit, but that's not what I mean. Let me explain:
We met Casey and Alicia Theule at a ghetto Target after few weeks of arriving in Louisville -- I think we can actually call them our first friends here! They had moved from California so that Boy Casey (you'll see the reason for this title in the next sentence) could attend Southern Seminary. We're so thankful for their friendship, and also thankful that they introduced us to some more Cali transplants: Casey and Andrew Braden, who will hereafter be referred to as "Girl Casey and Braden" (he goes by his last name). So many Caseys! :) But Alicia now has a nickname of her own, Alicia+1, as they are expecting their first child in April! That is the reason we "reunited" with them -- the sickness joy of pregnancy had Alicia+1 down and out for an entire trimester. We are so excited to meet baby Theule!
Here are some photos so you can get a visual:

Yours Truly and Husband :)

We ate at the Old Spaghetti Factory downtown and had a delightful evening. Theules and Bradens, if you're reading this, let's do it again soon!
PS: It is Alicia+1's mom who has the cute puppy. I'm still jealous.

*There's a reason they call it SUPER glue...

I'll spare you the details (I'm actually just sparing myself the embarassment), but a couple of weeks ago I superglued my robe (the cute red one I was wearing backstage at the wedding show!) to my leg. I had to cut the robe off (luckily, since it's so fuzzy, it wasn't damaged) and was left with tufts of red fuzz on my thigh. It eventually came off, but it took some skin with it and left a mark (that's hopefully not permanent!). And this is the only picture you're getting on this topic!

*
Challenges, challenges

In other news, I'm still domestically challenged. Last night I discovered that it's not a good idea to put warm cookies on wire racks until they've cooled a bit. If you do perhaps decide that you don't have time for them to cool a little bit on the pan, you might end up with this problem:

Sigh. Live and learn, I suppose....

*MORE Challenges, challenges

Speaking of challenges, these are the kinds of challenges you might face on a daily basis with a husband.

If you ask him to make the bed...

Poor Judah, my precious stuffed lion, was violated!

(Yes, I still sleep with him.)

Or if you ask him to smile nicely for a picture...

But what can I say? I love the kid.

--Well, friends, I think that's all I have for you! I'm sure you've been entertained by our oh-so-interesting lives (riiiiight). I'll try to post more often in the future so I don't have to do such a marathon update. Grace and peace!

...

PS: I'm still pulling for Huckabee. All things are possible! But if that doesn't work out, I suppose I'll have to resign to vote for McCain (boo) -- please, anything but Obama! Hillary -- well -- Canada's always an option....

I love hearing about your adventures in domesticity. And you got a haircut! It looks great! And when we talk on the phone again, you're going to have to tell me exactly how robe and superglue met in the first place. I'm intrigued. Love ya.

I must say...Your blog is real nice with all those pictures!

I am sad however with your comment on my facebook. I wish we were at the same church. I don't want to lose our best friends in louisville.

Say something...
