Let me start by saying that we are extremely bemused (and amused!) by Kentuckians' fear of winter weather. It's only snowed once here of any merit (and believe you me, everything was cancelled that day, including Southern!). Today there was mention of an ice storm and the seminary shut down mid-day. I was shocked (and elated!). Wes and I gleefully left campus (don't get me wrong; he loves his classes and I enjoy my job, but who wouldn't be excited about a "snow" day -- especially when there isn't really any snow to hinder the fun?) to begin our free-afternoon adventures.
We went to lunch and I picked up some new shoes that I ordered (Off Broadway Shoes on Shelbyville has incredible customer service -- I highly recommend shopping there!). New shoes make me happy. We came home and took a nap, and then I proceeded to do enough chores to feel accomplished: did all the laundry, re-organized some closets, made dinner (marinated chicken and real [not instant] mashed potatoes -- I'm getting more and more domestic by the minute!), cleaned the kitchen, added another coat of paint to my mirror (ooh... I should post on that soon. it was a great craigslist find for only $10!), did the dishes, wrote a letter, and made dessert:
I may have failed with the lemon cake, but I make a mean angel food cake (from the box, of course -- three cheers for Betty Crocker and just-add-water mixes!). Props to Wesley for a pretty plate presentation.
But even though I got a lot done tonight, it was last night that proved to be glorious (and just as productive, in my opinion). I started off my evening with cheap dinner at the Cheesecake Factory (the only thing better than dinner at the CF is cheap dinner at the CF -- and then add in the company of Jenny Clark -- who could ask for a better evening? If you've never checked out the CF's bar menu, be sure to ask me about it!). Wes had to meet with his accountability group, so when I arrived home I had some time to myself. I forced myself to clean the shower, and THEN... well... I'll leave you to figure out the rest of my evening:

(Please ignore the ugly couch and focus on how wonderful pedicures are, even if you have to do them yourself because you're too cheap to pay $25 at the mall!)

Have I mentioned lately that I love Mariksa Hargitay? Actually, I'm completely enamored by the entire cast. If anyone's love language is gifts, I'm in the market for season 6. :) And if your love language is gifts and you have pockets full of cash, it's my dream to be on set when they're filming... just saying.

I'm sad because what I think should be pictures are not there when I look at this newest blog entry...is this true or just a flaw in my webpage? If it is true please note the sad face for not being able to see whatever it was that you were showing pictures of! I enjoy your blogs the most because they include pictures... which I think is a throwback to when I was little...everyone loves pictures books better! :) I <3 the Crouser duo!!!
I finally caught up on some blog reading. But I really enjoyed the last few posts...especially the picture of that dessert. I could almost taste it!
I'm glad you guys are doing well! I'm also still pulling for Huckabee (maybe V.P.!?!?), but why do you say anyone but Obama!?!?
Brian
I responded to Brian's Obama question on facebook, but I thought I'd post my response here, too, in case anyone was interested:
A few reasons why I would never vote for Obama:
1. He is pro-infanticide: see his votes on BAIPA (as contrasted to Senators Clinton, Kennedy, and Kerry) while in state senate in Illinois.
2. He voted against the ban on partial birth abortion.
3. He advocates embryonic stem cell research, despite the fact that research teams in Wisconsin and Japan have shown adult stem cells to have a greater potential in healing diseases.
4. He advocates universal health care, which: a) is fiscally irresponsible for the United States, b) doesn’t bring equality in health care, c) takes away individual preference and gives the government moral responsibility and decision-making power in health issues, and d) furthers the bureaucratic aspects of medical care.
5. He wants to move toward universal, state-sponsored pre-school, which removes vital parental influence and bonding with children and de-personalizes family relationships.
6. He advocates sex education for kindergartners.
Those are a few reasons. He might be young, black and inspiring, but I don't think he's ready for presidency. At least I hope that's not a direction America turns! While I'm not McCain's biggest fan, he is a far better candidate.
Say something...
